I found myself at the symphony last night.
A couple of things hit me while I was there:
WTF am I doing at a symphony on a Friday night when I should be playing hockey? I’m not really meant for “civilized society”.
Covid still sucks ass. These people in their masks. I see dead people.
Where do we go from here? What’s next?
To answer a few of those questions for you:
My sister got my wife and I tickets to this symphony for Christmas. However, to my credit, I didn’t really pay attention to what the tickets actually were and thought I was going to see a rock guitarist and there would be smoke and a lightshow. I did NOT do my due diligence, because in December, I honestly didn’t even expect to be allowed in with my unvaxed status.
The Pittsburgh theater and arts society only dropped mask requirements for inside the show earlier this week. I wouldn’t have gone if those were still in place. But being there, 90% of the people were still masked anyway. And I don’t care how long I live, as long as there are people masking, it will be fascinating to me. And by fascinating, I mean I want to choke slam people and ask them why, as a fully grown adult, do they believe in fairy tales?
And finally, to my second point, it boggles my mind that people are really and truly still playing Covid theater. On stage, the wind and brass performers were unmasked, but the people playing the strings and percussions weren’t. The main featured performer, a guitar player, was also masked, as was the conductor. As I pondered this ridiculous scenario again for probably the millionth time in this “pandemic”, I wondered at what point this goes away for good. And I really wonder what’s the next evolution in this hellscape of a reality we find ourselves in.
It’s this last point that’s really been on my mind and heart the past few weeks as Covidstan seems to be gradually receding back out to the quagmire it appeared from.
I’ve noticed that some of the Substackers I follow haven’t been posting quite as much, and the topic is definitely shifting from Covid. And that’s OK. I’m so tired of talking about Covid myself.
However, there are a lot of people that need to be held accountable and be given the justice they deserve for the two years of horror they put us through. They can’t just skate.
But also, WE can’t forget and move on just because it SEEMS like the water we were boiling in has cooled down.
We the people have made a LOT of headway in pushing back. More than I thought we’d be able to do this late in the game, truthfully. But I also feel that now that the water doesn’t seem quite so hot (and it still is scalding), the slightest relinquishing of passion and anger and pushback.
We cannot stop pushing back. Ever again.
So here’s a check in. What are YOU doing right now to keep pushing back?
Please comment below. Please share this post. Please keep the pedal to the floor, in your own life and in the lives of the people that absolutely destroyed our way of life over the past two years.
Never forget…COVID DIDN’T DO THIS TO US. Someone else did.
Some PERSON made the decision to put the vaccine requirement into place at your work and forced you to choose between a jab or a job.
Some PERSON denied early treatment for your loved one.
Some PERSON yelled at you for suggesting you send your kid back to school, unmasked.
Some PERSON wants to own every aspect of your mind, body, and soul. They want a digital copy of everything you are.
Some PERSON lied, manipulated, and bullied you for two years.
Some PERSON said you can’t go to Thanksgiving because you weren’t vaxxed.
Covid didn’t do this. Some PERSON did. Each and every decision was made by someone, in spite of someone else, at the cost to someone else.
So I ask you, what’s next? Are we just going to roll over and forget about all of this? Or are we…are YOU…going to keep the heat on these bastards? Are you going to go forward with that lawsuit? Are you going to chase down every school board member who shrieked at you for two years about safety, even as your child’s mental and physical health fell off the cliff? Are you going to hold every elected official and unelected health “expert” accountable for the loved one that died?
If we stop now, expect a bigger, more crushing wave. Soon. And then another. And another.
I now live in a very blue community in a red state, and in 2016 I voted affirmatively for "none of the above" and skipped 2020 and am registered as "unaffiliated," and as someone following zero religious dogmas nor political imperatives, I been one of only two letter writers published in our regional newspaper who've expressed absolute opposition to vaccine mandates and have declared ourselves un-Plague-vaxxed for the duration of life on earth.
And these folks, having gotten that fatal taste for blood and really enjoying their "Build a Better Genocide" theme park up here, ain't gonna give up anytime soon. I never thought the degreed crowd was some sort of superior types or nothin' and I generally represent the Peasants Rebellion wherever I happen to be, but I didn't expect quite this level of idiocy. But see? Naivete doesn't wear off despite age and experience.
They asked for my Vax card if I wanted to continue coaching hockey while making it mandatory for our kids (still do today) to wear masks while playing ice hockey and while going to school. I will never forget.
I pulled them out of hockey, and my boys get told 20 times a day to put their bandanas back up over their noses.
