The Myth of Borders and the Reality of Fences
Nations are crumbling. Rulers are ruling. And the subjects are ruled. Without borders.
An even cursory survey of history suggested that the unparalleled equality and freedom the average person had enjoyed over the last seventy-five years was an aberration. Nothing more than a bubble created by a perfect storm of the postwar economic boom, industrial revolution, and the rise of worker’s unions.
Now, though, that bubble was bursting. An international ruling class was forming. Borders were becoming increasingly meaningless to that privileged group, as was citizenship and the rule of law. Going forward, alliances would no longer be forged between countries so much as individuals and private entities. Those shrewd, strong, and courageous enough to rule would be given that privilege. A privilege that would quickly become an unassailable right. Nationality, patriotism, and religion would go back to what they had been in centuries past - a convenient way to control the masses.

“You talk like governments have legitimacy. Most leaders aren’t elected - they cheat, inherit, or murder their way to the top. How does that give them any more right than you to preside over a legal system? You’re a hell of a lot smarter. And a hell of a lot less crazy.”

The other day, I got a comment on my Meet Me In The Middle article that at first I disagreed with. Maybe disagree is a poor description of what I felt. Indignant. The comment was:
"If your happiness is making billions, go forth and prosper. Don't be a dick doing it either." - It doesn't make sense. Ordinary people are not in a position to go "make billions." Those who make billions also cannot be "not dicks" because they exploit nature and animals, pollute the environment, steal natural resources, bribe dirty governments in order to legalize their crimes, etc.
I felt like that was unfair to people who have made fortunes through hard work, innovation, and persistence. But as I reflected on it overnight, I came to realize that it’s probably much closer to the truth than I want to admit. I want to believe that people can work really hard and make a lot of money and do good things with it. There are so many people with lots of money that have worked hard, built good organizations, and done so much to advance the human race.
However, the comment challenged me. To get to those upper stratospheres of life, I think you DO have to make a lot of back door deals with the devil, to tread on those that are vulnerable. I'm sure there still are good people that accomplish a lot, spread a lot of charity and empowerment, and do things the right way. But to get to that rare air, it would seem you have to almost be a psychopath.
Anyone with eyes to see can confidently say that the Clintons, the Bush family, the Bidens, Soros, Trump, Gates, etc., all have lengthy histories of abuse, manipulation, corruption, and outright evil driving their actions. Scandal after scandal, abuse after abuse, and agenda after agenda that puts power into their hands have been the MO of these people.
These are just a few of the leeches and snakes that have slithered out of the ground to the surface, for for every one of them that is out front and visible, there are 10 fold just like them below the surface, doing snake and leech things with all of their might in darkness. They have been changing the composition of the soil for years, turning the fertile ground of liberty, democracy, and freedom into something much different - and frankly familiar - to the precedents that have defined humanity for most of our existence.
The Enlightenment, the American experiment, the concept of individual liberty, democracy - these are all a relative blip on the radar of mankind. For much of the rest of our timeline, there has been the rulers and the subjects. In in our DNA to rule and want to be ruled.
In the Old Testament, we see an amazing and tragic example of this play out in 1 Samuel 8.
4 So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead[b] us, such as all the other nations have.”
6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”
10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle[c] and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
Israel was supposed to be a theocracy. A kingdom ruled and judged by God Himself and the leaders He divinely appointed. And for a while, the people tried to work that out. But human nature once again took over. They looked around and realized that rather than try this new experiment, this thing that looked completely different, they’d rather just be like everyone else. They cried out for an earthly ruler.
God obliged. But He also told them exactly what was going to happen. They would be ruled harshly. They would be subjected to all kinds of wickedness and injustice and theft and corruption. And as you go on to read, that comes to pass, over and over again.
As I’ve written about elsewhere, humans were made to be ruled over, but by a loving and just God. Sin destroyed that connection, and we’re left with a desire to be ruled and a desire to rule, and just like every other aspect of life here on earth, it’s a perverted, distorted version of that system of organization.
And as surely as history will repeat itself, we find ourselves here and now, crying out for rulers and kings and experts to tell us how to live. What to feel. What to think. We’re handing over the controls to our own destiny once again to people who very much will take everything from us.
They’ve spent the last century working like fiends to undo the mistakes of democracy, the follies of the Enlightenment. They’ve gnashed their teeth at the concept of individual liberty and a Constitution that guarantees those liberties.
What we’ve witnessed over the past two plus years now has been the masks being taken off. Their patience in waiting to rule has run out. Their time in the shadows and in wriggling around the dirt has ended, and they’ve collectively decided that now is the time to exert the control that they believe is so rightly theirs.
During the madness of 2020, humanity saw the fundamental transformation of our lives and societies. We locked down entire countries in unison. Power, from the least to greatest, was exercised in a way that few of us ever imagined.
The security guard in the airport suddenly felt empowered to scream and threaten you if you didn’t keep your mask up between bites.
The cop literally put their boot on your back if you dared to find yourself out in the open air of a park with your kids.
The mayor fined you and closed the business your family worked to build for the past 50 years.
Your governor or prime minister belittled you, bullied you, and jailed you for daring to hold a rally expressing your opposition to the madness.
The social media overlords silenced you. Slandered you. Cancelled you.
Your nation told you you couldn’t travel. If you did, you had to quarantine, at your own expense.
They shut down your bank account.
They told you not to vote, and if you did, not to leave your house. And if you did, and you didn’t vote a certain way, you were killing your fellow citizens.
Here in the US, we’ve had a border crisis beyond comprehension for over a year now. Much longer, but it’s completely fallen apart and been intentionally broken over the past year especially under the Biden administration. Russia has just rolled right through Ukraine, and the world stood watching and wagging their collective fingers, virtue signaling concern.
Borders are becoming quaint, a thing of the past, because as the quote to start this article says, borders are a figment of a world order that once was but is no more. Our rulers aren’t interested in borders.
What our rulers are interested in are FENCES. Please get this through your head. Digital, ideological, political, and yes, sometimes geographical fences. To them, you are an animal, and you need a pen to live in. They need to control you, and they need you to know you are being controlled.
It IS Animal Farm. You ARE a pig, a dog, a peasant, and if you learned anything over the past two years, it needs to be that this is EXACTLY how the elite see you.
Physical borders will become irrelevant in the near future, IF they have their way. They won’t need borders, per se, unless it suits them to stir up patriotism or war or some other useful motive. Your borders will be digital and biological. You will think what the current thing they’re pushing is, or you will face consequences.
Remember this interaction from the Cigarette Smoking Man in the X-Files
I’m hopeful in a sense that for at times over the past two years, eventually humanity stood up and said “enough”, in many places of the globe. It took too long, and we lost too much, but eventually we did it.
Yet there’s a very cynical part of me that just thinks the bullies have simply released us out of the headlock for today. It was a test to see how strong we were. Or how weak. The bully got its answer, and as sure as the sun rises, they will be back tomorrow, stronger and more determined to take us and make us understand that we’re still at their mercy.
Stay vigilant. Get loud and active. Don’t ever retreat or let your guard down. Continue to stand, to fight, to declare to the world what’s really going on. The fences and the pens and the whips are coming again.
That’s how rulers rule those that desire to be ruled.
It helps to use accurate language, not the words they apply to things.
We haven't been "locked down", we've been locked up, imprisoned, incarcerated.
Also, Russia didn't "just roll through Ukraine" in a vacuum. The west has been provoking Russia since Clinton & Putin took office.
When the USSR broke up, Yeltsin "gave away" to Ukraine significant portions of Russia. The people who inhabited those areas, since the US backed coup overthrew the Ukraine government & installed a puppet government in 2014, have been targeted by neo-nazis funded & trained by US tax dollars. Those neo-nazis have been embedded into the Nato-trained military. They have shelled the Donbass region with artillery, tortured & murdered Russians. They cut off Crimea from its natural water (the dam only just blown up in recent weeks).
The US & Nato pushed Russia too far. Evidence has emerged that they were planning a direct attack on Russia, to begin on March 18.
Yes, most of this is true.
It's true because intellect cannot permanently master the animal nature. But what I think you miss is that the Lord quoted in the passage from Samuel is a human creation. "Hey--I'm the ruler you want! And you'll be sorry if you choose someone else..." Still a ruler; still a demand for a terrible conformity. The holy document of my people makes genocide legitimate when God says it's OK; makes the killing of those who step out of line legitimate; makes women subordinate and captive to bad marriages; was the basis of the witch-persecution craze that poisoned Europe and, briefly, America. The regulation of every detail of daily life, and the transgression of any which makes you a sinner--that's what we're seeing exactly right now, just from secular and not religious authorities.
The God of the Bible--or more accurately Torah--is a tribal god evolved in conception to be the only God. It always amazed me how so many people who claim to be followers of Christ are actually in temperament Old Testament Christians with the rigidity and cruelty that reflects.
It's my belief that our innate yearning towards a Higher Authority both enables us to sense the reality of the Unknowable Creator and leads us too often to envision that Creator in our own image and creates the uncontrollable desire to have tangible power like that.
We shouldn't want a theocracy. The people were required to tithe tangible goods to the Temple, weren't they? To offer burnt sacrifices of killed living creatures to please the nostrils of an incorporeal being? If we think the Scriptures are true, how can we choose which laws are outdated and which are eternal?
The hard lesson that generations always must relearn is that the work of establishing, maintaining and perpetuating Justice is never done. The Founders of this nation were astonishingly, astoundingly wise men in their vision, despite their human frailties. It's the Enlightenment that molded them.
But every system degrades over time and needs to be refreshed. The rationalism of Western European intellectualism became postmodernist bullshit. It's no accident that these idiot children today are pulling down statues of Jefferson and Washington, because they're incapable of separating, as it were, the divine from the profane.
